Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jintae) held the appointment ceremony for the 2nd Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Local Era Committee members at 4:00 p.m. on the 4th floor meeting room of the provincial government annex on the 15th.

The newly appointed committee members are Namgoong Hyun (Director of Planning at Gangwon Ilbo), Lee Sooyoung (Editorial Director at Gangwon Domin Ilbo), Ha Namsook (Executive Director at Bukwon Credit Cooperative), Kim Yonggi (Chairman of the Ministry of Justice Legal Protection Committee, Gangwon Eastern Council), and Lee Boram (Director of Gangneung Design Thinking Museum), totaling five members.

With these appointments, the 2nd Local Era Committee is now composed of about 20 members. Over the next two years, the committee will deliberate on major issues such as the relocation of public institutions and the designation of Opportunity Development Zones. In particular, as the government advances its "Five Major Economic Regions and Three Special Zones" policy, the role and importance of the committee are expected to grow even further.

At the appointment ceremony, Governor Kim Jintae personally presented appointment certificates to the new members and reappointed Hwang Haksoo as the committee chair for the second term, following his leadership in the first term.

Meanwhile, the 1st Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Local Era Committee was launched in September 2023 as the first of its kind in the country under the "Special Act on Decentralization and Balanced Regional Development." Over the past two years, the committee has reviewed key implementation plans related to balanced regional development, designated six Opportunity Development Zones, designated eleven pilot Educational Development Zones across cities and counties, and supported the successful hosting of the 2024 Korea Local Era Expo, achieving significant results.

Governor Kim Jintae expressed his gratitude, saying, "I would like to thank Chairman Hwang Haksoo for serving another term, and I look forward to working with all the new and existing committee members." He added, "The Local Era Committee is a legal entity established by law, and I hope it will serve as the central pillar leading Gangwon Province's new challenges in the future."
