Gwangju City and Daegu City are strengthening their cooperation for regional co-prosperity and development linked to the national policy tasks of the Lee Jaemyung administration through the "Moonlight Alliance."

On September 15, Gwangju City held a working-level meeting at city hall with Daegu City to identify joint cooperation projects for the Moonlight Alliance and discuss future directions. During the meeting, the two cities exchanged in-depth opinions on 15 joint cooperation projects across five major areas: ultra-wide area SOC, advanced AI industries, cultural tourism development, strengthening social safety nets, and balanced growth hubs.

In particular, in connection with the national policy tasks of the Lee Jaemyung administration, they focused on: proposing the allocation of national funding for establishing Gwangju-Daegu AX innovation hubs; jointly nurturing core AI convergence talent; jointly discovering projects linked to specialized clusters for materials, parts, and equipment; and discussing the second phase relocation of public institutions to realize the "Five Poles, Three Special Zones" strategy.

The two cities also plan to work together to secure an exemption from the preliminary feasibility study for the long-awaited Dalbit Railway construction project. On September 17, the city will announce a joint declaration at the National Assembly with the mayors and governors of cities and provinces along the Dalbit Railway route, as well as local National Assembly members, urging confirmation of the exemption from the preliminary feasibility study and calling for active government support.

Based on the results of this meeting, the two cities will conduct a thorough review, finalize future cooperation projects, and continue to respond jointly in areas such as securing national funding and improving related systems. Through these discussions, the city has laid the groundwork for advancing the Moonlight Alliance, and plans to continue close cooperation with Daegu City to spread a regional co-prosperity development model.

Lee Byungcheol, Director of Planning and Coordination at Gwangju City, stated, "Gwangju and Daegu have maintained the Moonlight Alliance for a long time based on co-prosperity and trust. This discussion is a process of concretizing a cooperation model linked to national policy tasks, and we will strive to achieve tangible results in the national balanced development policy."

Oh Junhyeok, Director of Planning and Coordination at Daegu City, said, "Today's meeting will serve as a starting point for further strengthening the solid Moonlight Alliance between our two cities. We will work closely together to contribute to the Lee Jaemyung administration's goal of balanced development and to lead the AI transformation and ultra-innovative economy."
