Securing 150 Billion Won for Disaster Prevention Projects
39.8 Billion Won Allocated for Baegya District Improvement
Uiryeong County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on September 15 that it has been finally selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's "2026 Comprehensive Flood and Storm Damage Prevention Project" and has secured 39.8 billion won in funding for the Jijeong Baegya district improvement project.
Including this selection, the county has secured a total project budget of 150 billion won for 16 districts, including three newly designated areas. In 2026, Uiryeong County plans to gradually implement disaster prevention projects with an investment of 28 billion won.
The budget secured this time is an increase of 9.8 billion won compared to the previous year. This achievement is attributed to ongoing cooperation with central government ministries and South Gyeongsang Province, as well as Uiryeong County's strategic efforts to identify and apply for competitive projects.
The "Comprehensive Flood and Storm Damage Prevention Project" is a large-scale, government-funded initiative that comprehensively and systematically improves disaster risk factors across individual facilities such as rivers, reservoirs, and steep slopes. Once selected as a project site, the area receives not only national and provincial funding for improvement projects, but also various administrative support measures in accordance with the Natural Disaster Countermeasures Act.
The Jijeong Baegya district, which was selected this time, has suffered repeated flooding due to the frequent overflow of Baegya Stream and Seongdang Stream. Uiryeong County plans to focus on improving core infrastructure in this area to mitigate disaster risks, including the construction of embankments, expansion of drainage pump stations, reconstruction and construction of bridges, installation of inflow channels, installation of rockfall protection nets, and the establishment of a disaster early warning system.
.
In addition, Uiryeong County has also achieved success by being consecutively selected for other disaster prevention-related projects, such as the Hwajeong Deokgyo 2 District Steep Slope Collapse Risk Area Improvement Project (total project cost of 1.1 billion won) and the Garye Gaeseung Disaster Risk Reservoir Improvement Project (total project cost of 2.3 billion won), proactively addressing even small-scale disaster risk factors.
An official from Uiryeong County stated, "The disaster prevention budget secured this year is the largest ever and is the result of strategic policies aimed at protecting the lives and property of our residents. Going forward, we will continue to actively secure national funding through close cooperation with the central government and South Gyeongsang Province, and will steadily pursue more systematic and effective disaster prevention projects."
