Contributing to the Spread of Garden Culture in Daily Life
Daejeon City has newly designated four private gardens-Buen Camino, Si Eunwoo, Coffee Ga, and Moru Garden-expanding spaces for relaxation and healing for citizens by promoting the spread of garden culture in daily life.
Private gardens are one of the types of gardens defined under the “Act on the Creation and Promotion of Arboretums and Gardens.” These are gardens created and operated directly by individuals, corporations, or organizations, and are open to the public.
Since 2022, Daejeon City has been operating the private garden system. With these new designations, the city now has a total of twelve private gardens, including the newly registered Private Garden No. 9: Buen Camino (13-19 Sanseongdong, Jung-gu), Private Garden No. 10: Si Eunwoo (62-1 Wolpyeong-dong, Seo-gu), Private Garden No. 11: Coffee Ga (618-22 Tapripdong, Yuseong District), and Private Garden No. 12: Moru Garden (11-3 Deokam-dong, Daedeok District).
The existing eight gardens are: No. 1 Sky River (Ihyeon-dong, Daedeok District), No. 2 Pine Landscape (Goejeong-dong, Seo-gu), No. 3 Walden (Mok-dong, Jung-gu), No. 4 Holiday (Nae-dong, Seo-gu), No. 5 At That Place (Gap-dong, Yuseong District), No. 6 Poongnyu Soje (Soje-dong, Dong-gu), No. 7 Coffee House (Yucheon-dong, Jung-gu), and No. 8 Daejeon Shinsegae Art & Science (Doryong-dong, Yuseong District).
Private Garden No. 9, Buen Camino, is a caf?-style garden whose name means “good road” in Spanish, offering lawns and garden scenery. Private Garden No. 10, Si Eunwoo, is a cozy urban retreat created by renovating an old house.
Private Garden No. 11, Coffee Ga, features an outdoor garden with flowers and trees as well as a photo zone, providing a relaxing experience in nature. Private Garden No. 12, Moru Garden, stands out for its landscape where a garden and architecture blend within an alleyway.
The city finalized these new designations by comprehensively evaluating criteria such as garden composition, openness, convenience facilities, and the operator’s management efforts. To further vitalize private gardens, the city will continue to provide support such as standard plaques, garden management consulting, seasonal garden plant supplies, and citizen gardener training programs.
Any citizen who directly creates and manages a garden can apply for private garden designation. For more information, inquiries can be made to the Daejeon City Forest and Greenery Policy Division.
Park Youngcheol, Director of the Daejeon City Greenery and Agro-Bio Bureau, stated, “Private gardens are a garden culture in everyday life, cultivated and enjoyed by citizens themselves,” adding, “We will continue to actively support private gardens so they can become spaces for relaxation and healing for our citizens.”
