Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on September 15 that it conducted the "2025 Chuseok Holiday Seasonal Food and Livestock Product Safety Inspection" to ensure that citizens can safely purchase and consume seasonal foods during the upcoming Chuseok holiday.

This inspection, which was carried out over five days from September 8 to September 12, focused on foods and livestock products that experience high demand during the holiday period, such as offerings and gift items.

The inspection covered a total of approximately 100 locations, including manufacturing and processing facilities, large supermarkets, restaurants in traditional markets that serve holiday foods, manufacturers of rice cakes and traditional Korean confections, health functional food retailers, and livestock product vendors.

In particular, the city collected ready-to-eat foods such as rice cakes and jeon, which are popular among citizens at large supermarkets and traditional markets, as well as liquid eggs, packaged meat, and gift livestock products, and requested inspections from a specialized agency (Northern Branch of Gyeonggi-do Institute of Health and Environment).

This measure was taken to proactively prevent potential safety issues related to hazardous elements such as heavy metals and food poisoning bacteria.

The inspection mainly focused on basic safety rules, including hygiene management at workplaces, storage standards for refrigerated and frozen foods, and whether expired products were being used. For locations where hygiene management was found to be lacking, administrative guidance and on-site corrective actions were completed.

For items currently undergoing collection and inspection, any non-compliant foods will be subject to recall and disposal.

Additionally, as livestock product consumption increases ahead of the Chuseok holiday, the city will conduct a joint crackdown on the distribution stage of the livestock product traceability system with the National Agricultural Products Quality Management Service and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency from Monday, September 15 to Thursday, October 2.

The main inspection items include traceability number labeling, appropriateness of grade and country of origin labeling, and unreported transactions involving disguised sales. DNA identity tests will also be conducted if necessary.
