Aiming to Enhance Early Literacy and Strengthen Teacher Expertise
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Training Institute (Director Heo Namjo) will conduct a "Teacher Training Program for Strengthening Korean Language Education" for 30 elementary school teachers from September 16 to 23.
This training program focuses on enhancing teachers' expertise and capacity in teaching Korean, with the goal of guaranteeing basic academic skills for elementary students.
The curriculum consists of five subjects: lesson design linked to the 2022 revised Korean language curriculum, developing phonological awareness, practical training in reading fluency instruction, and literacy classes based on picture books. The program is characterized by its emphasis on practical, hands-on activities and case studies to increase applicability in real classroom settings.
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education Training Institute plans to use this program to further improve teachers' Korean language instruction skills and to develop and distribute customized teaching materials for students, thereby supporting the effective implementation of Korean language education in schools.
Director Heo Namjo stated, "Through a systematic Korean language education system led by public education, we will enhance the early literacy of elementary students and strengthen both teacher competencies and the distribution of teaching and learning materials to realize responsible Korean language education."
