The city is strengthening its emergency duty system to respond swiftly to various disaster situations such as landslides, river flooding, and road inundation caused by the heavy rain.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok emphasized, "Since Namyangju is frequently mentioned as an area at risk of landslides, each town and district must intensify on-site monitoring activities in hazardous areas under their jurisdiction," and added, "All departments should work closely together and prepare thoroughly to minimize casualties and property damage caused by the torrential rain."
On this day, a heavy rain advisory was issued across the city at 6:30 a.m., followed by a heavy rain warning at 11:40 a.m. The city declared Emergency Level 1 at 6:30 a.m. and immediately raised it to Emergency Level 2 at 11:40 a.m. in response to the upgraded heavy rain warning.
As of 2:00 p.m., the cumulative rainfall averaged 98.6 mm, with Byeollae-myeon recording the highest rainfall at 186 mm.
Additionally, a landslide warning was issued at 1:00 p.m., and at the same time, an evacuation order was given to residents in the Bupyeong-ri area of Jinjup-eup due to concerns about river flooding.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has forecast that more than 150 mm of heavy rain is expected to be concentrated in northern Gyeonggi Province until the early morning of August 14.
In particular, the city plans to strengthen monitoring activities in areas at risk of landslides and possible flooding, focusing on locations where casualties are a concern, in order to prevent secondary damage in the same regions based on cases of damage from the torrential rain that occurred from July 16 to 20.
Furthermore, the city plans to further solidify its cooperative system with the Namyangju Fire Station to respond quickly to sites affected by flooding.
Previously, to proactively respond to torrential rain, the city established a joint response system with the Namyangju Fire Station last month and is supporting mobile vehicles equipped with large pumps capable of pumping more than 4,500 liters of water per minute.
Mayor Joo Gwangdeok requested that pumps be promptly deployed to areas affected by river flooding and inundation so that effective damage mitigation can be achieved.
