Gyeongsan City Little Baseball Team’s U-9 Squad Upholds Pride with Championship Win over Seoul as Older Teams Fall Short

Among the three teams (U-9, U-10, and U-12) belonging to the Gyeongsan City Little Baseball Team (headed by Gyeongsan Mayor Cho Hyunil), only the U-9 team (players aged 9 and under) claimed victory, upholding the pride of the Gyeongsan region.

The 3rd Gyeongsan Mayor’s Cup National Little Baseball Tournament, held from August 7 to August 14, 2025, features a total of 115 of the nation’s strongest youth baseball teams across three divisions: U-9 (players aged 9 and under), U-10 (players aged 10 and under), and U-12 (players aged 12 and under). The tournament is taking place at the Kyungil University Baseball Field, where intense competition is underway.

In this tournament, the Gyeongsan City Little Baseball Team’s U-10 and U-12 teams failed to advance to the round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively. However, the U-9 team secured a glorious victory by defeating the Jungnang-gu Little Baseball Team from Seoul 7-3 in the final held on August 12.

Founded in 2009, the Gyeongsan City Little Baseball Team consists of about 50 players ranging from first grade in elementary school to first grade in middle school. The team has contributed to the expansion of youth baseball and the development of outstanding local players.

Meanwhile, last year, Park Kwanwoo, a former member of the Gyeongsan City Little Baseball Team, joined the LG Twins in the 2025 KBO Rookie Draft, further cementing the team’s reputation as a cradle for nurturing baseball talent.

Cho Hyunil, the head of the Gyeongsan City Little Baseball Team and Mayor of Gyeongsan, stated, “I sincerely congratulate the team for achieving this valuable victory, forged with passion hotter than the heatwave. I will continue to do my utmost to ensure that our players can perform at their best on the field.”
