Development of a Steroid-Free MD Cream

Cosmax, an Original Development Manufacturing (ODM) company specializing in cosmetics, announced on August 13 that it has obtained certification for compliance with the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards for medical device manufacturing and quality management.

Medical device GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) is a management standard designed to ensure quality and safety throughout the entire manufacturing process of medical devices. It can only be obtained by meeting stringent requirements for facilities, hygiene, and verification systems. With this certification, Cosmax has established a solid foundation for entering the hospital and clinic market, particularly those focused on dermatology.

Cosmax Obtains Medical Device GMP Certification... Accelerates "MD Cream" Development

Cosmax plans to accelerate the development of its "MD Cream" products, targeting the dermatology and hospital specialty markets. MD Cream falls under the category of "adhesive transparent wound dressings," which are classified as class 2 medical devices. Adhesive transparent wound dressings are transparent, adhesive coverings used to protect wounds with minimal exudate. These medical devices are approved for purposes such as wound coverage and creating a moist environment to protect the skin.

Cosmax intends to leverage its accumulated expertise in derma research, bio-material development, and formulation technology to develop a variety of MD Cream products. The company also plans to expand its business portfolio by carrying out manufacturing following proper authorization and verification procedures.

Kang Seunghyun, Head of the Cosmax R&I Center, stated, "This GMP certification marks a new chapter for us, expanding beyond cosmetics into medical devices. Building on this, we will continue to pursue convergence research that breaks down barriers between dermatological science and biotechnology, ultimately contributing to practical patient care."
