On August 8, the Jeonnam Inspection Bureau of the Audit Committee of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation conducted an on-site safety inspection at the Yeongam Livestock Agricultural Cooperative Fiber Feed Factory together with the management to ensure compliance with the Serious Accidents Punishment Act.
This inspection was carried out to prevent heat-related illnesses caused by the ongoing heatwave, as well as safety accidents in confined spaces at the workplace. The team reviewed the work practices of on-site workers and staff, provided safety education to raise awareness, checked for potential hazards, and encouraged on-site supervisors to take a more proactive role in inspecting and managing safety to better protect workers.
Since the majority of accidents are caused by a lack of safety awareness among both employers and employees?such as not wearing personal protective equipment (safety helmets, safety shoes), unstable installation of safety devices (work platforms, safety railings), and carelessness?frequent safety inspections remain the best way to prevent accidents.
Pyun Ji-hyung, head of the Jeonnam Inspection Bureau, emphasized, "The key to preventing serious accidents is not post-incident response but proactive prevention. Even a small lapse in attention can lead to an accident. Therefore, it is important to continuously check and improve all potential risk factors at the workplace so that not only workers but also cooperating staff and customers can safely use the facilities of agricultural and livestock cooperatives."
