KakaoBank Launches "Mobile ID" Service

Available Not Only on the App, but Also in the 'More' Tab of KakaoTalk
"Carries the Same Legal Validity as a Physical ID"

KakaoBank launched its "Mobile ID" service on July 23, allowing users to verify their identity without a physical identification card. This new service can be easily accessed not only through the KakaoBank application (app) but also via the "More" tab in KakaoTalk.

The Mobile ID is a digital form of identification that holds the same legal validity as a physical ID card. Users who possess a physical IC card ID with an embedded IC chip can issue a Mobile ID through the KakaoBank app after completing password verification and facial recognition procedures.

The ID issued via the KakaoBank app can be used in both online and offline situations. Users can also access the Mobile ID by selecting it next to the wallet at the top of the "More" tab in KakaoTalk. To use the Mobile ID, fingerprint authentication or password entry is required. The service supports both Android (on Samsung Wallet-supported devices) and iOS operating systems.

KakaoBank Launches "Mobile ID" Service

At the Mobile ID Private Sector Opening Event hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the same day, KakaoBank demonstrated how customers can use the Mobile ID for identity verification when purchasing alcoholic beverages offline after receiving them as gifts via KakaoTalk Gift.

The event was attended by key figures including Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Hojoong and KakaoBank CEO Yoon Hoyoung, who directly observed the safe and convenient process of using KakaoBank's Mobile ID service.

To commemorate the launch of this service, KakaoBank is holding an event until October 20, offering customers who issue a Mobile ID the chance to receive up to 15,000 won in cash. The awarded cash will be immediately deposited into the customer's KakaoBank transaction account. Additionally, a promotion will be held in which 500 customers who participate in a social networking service (SNS) sharing event will be selected by lottery to receive a chicken coupon.

KakaoBank CEO Yoon Hoyoung stated, "Since an ID card is a means of proving one's identity, it must be safe and convenient for customers to use in their daily lives," adding, "We will provide a stable Mobile ID service based on KakaoBank's security technology."
