Asan Hospital to Redesign as Heavy Ion Therapy Center
The Mokdong 2nd Woosung Apartment remodeling project and the Seoul Asan Hospital expansion project have passed the Seoul City review. In the future, the Woosung Apartment complex is expected to become a residential area with 1,299 units, while the Seoul Asan Hospital will house a heavy ion therapy center.
On July 23, Seoul City announced that at the 9th Architecture Committee meeting, a total of two agenda items, including the Mokdong 2nd Woosung Apartment remodeling, had passed the architectural review.
The Mokdong 2nd Woosung Apartment remodeling project involves horizontally expanding the existing 1,140-unit apartment complex located in Sinjeong-dong, Yangcheon-gu. After remodeling, the apartment complex will be reborn with a total of 1,299 units. The additional supply created through remodeling amounts to 159 units, with sales scheduled for April 2028. Construction is set to begin in March of the same year, with completion targeted for 2031.
The vehicle-centered ground space within the complex will be restructured into a pedestrian-oriented area featuring abundant green spaces and landscaping. The plan includes introducing shared facilities for use by local residents and creating a community-oriented complex that communicates with the neighborhood by opening up fences and expanding open parking lots.
The Seoul Asan Hospital expansion project centers on redesigning the cerebrovascular center as a heavy ion therapy center and increasing the parking building from four to six above-ground floors.
With this review approval, Seoul Asan Hospital will establish a heavy ion therapy center for the treatment of intractable cancers. In addition, by increasing the parking building to six floors, the number of parking spaces will be increased by 502, and a new vehicle entrance will be added to disperse traffic flow, which is expected to alleviate parking inconveniences for patients. Completion is scheduled for March 2031.
A Seoul City official stated, "Seoul Asan Hospital is expected to be reborn as a comprehensive medical facility equipped with the largest and most advanced cancer treatment equipment, making a significant contribution to the treatment of patients with intractable cancers."
