Seoul Housing and Communities Corporation (SH Corporation) announced on June 25 that it conducted on-site inspections of flood safety management at semi-basement homes in the Sillim-dong area of Gwanak-gu ahead of the monsoon season.

Hwang Sangha, President of SH Corporation, and the inspection team checked the installation status of flood barriers and the operation of evacuation facilities such as operable security windows in semi-basement homes the previous day to prevent flooding. SH Corporation has installed flood prevention facilities in all semi-basement households through a comprehensive survey and distributed evacuation guidelines to residents in case of flooding.

In addition, the corporation is establishing a thorough response system by cooperating with local districts to form "Flood Damage Prevention Partner" teams.

Furthermore, President Hwang met directly with residents of semi-basement households to listen to their opinions on tailored support measures for housing improvement.

SH Corporation is promoting housing improvement projects in connection with the government and Seoul City's policy to phase out semi-basement housing. So far, 246 households have been relocated above ground. Apart from 17 households currently in the process of relocation, the remaining 25 households are also being continuously guided toward above-ground relocation.

Additionally, the inspection team visited other flood-prone areas, including Seongdui Village and the Sinwoncheon stream construction site, to check on safety management conditions.

President Hwang stated, "We will do our utmost to prevent flood damage and protect citizens from the heavy rains of the monsoon season," adding, "We are committed to creating an environment where citizens can live safely."
