Police Conduct Intensive Search in Mountain Area

After it was confirmed that a man in his 40s, suspected of murdering a woman he had been stalking in Daegu and fleeing the scene, had escaped to a mountain area in Sejong City, the Sejong City government issued a warning to its residents.

On June 12, the Sejong City Citizen Safety Office stated, "It has been determined that the suspect in the stabbing murder of a woman in her 50s, which occurred in Daegu, took a taxi and got off in a mountain area in Bugang-myeon, Sejong City on the same day. We ask citizens to refrain from visiting secluded places and entering the mountains near the city for the time being. If you spot any suspicious individuals, please report them immediately to 112."

According to the Seongseo Police Station in Daegu, at around 3:30 a.m. on June 10, a man in his 40s, suspected of murdering a woman in her 50s at an apartment in Daegu, fled the scene by car immediately after committing the crime. It was reported that, based on A's card transaction records, he paid a taxi fare in the mountain area of Bugang-myeon, Sejong City.

The man had previously been booked without detention in April on charges of violating the Stalking Punishment Act, after allegedly threatening the victim with a weapon at her residence, and had been under investigation until recently before committing the crime. At that time, the police applied for an arrest warrant for A on charges including special intimidation, considering B's safety, but the court reportedly rejected the request, citing that "the suspect was cooperating with the investigation." Subsequently, it was revealed that the man climbed the gas pipe installed on the exterior wall of the apartment to break into the victim's home on the sixth floor.

After confirming that the suspect had fled to a mountain area in Bugang-myeon, Sejong City, the Daegu Metropolitan Police Agency and the Sejong Police Agency have deployed around 180 police officers, eight search dogs, drones, and helicopters, and have been searching the mountain areas and trails around Sejong City for three consecutive days.
