'One-Stop Switching Service' Not Functioning Properly
KCC to Examine Possible Violations of the Telecommunications Business Act
The Korea Communications Commission (KCC) will conduct an inspection regarding delays in the cancellation of SK Telecom's high-speed internet services.
On June 12, the KCC announced that there have been recent cases where SK Telecom high-speed internet users experienced delays in contract cancellations because the 'one-stop switching service' was not properly processed. The KCC plans to investigate whether there were any violations of prohibited acts under the Telecommunications Business Act.
The one-stop switching service allows high-speed internet users to switch to another telecommunications company by simply applying for a new subscription with the new provider, without having to submit a separate cancellation request to their current provider. Both the activation of the new service and the cancellation of the previous contract are handled simultaneously. The KCC introduced this system in 2020 to enhance user convenience, and it is currently implemented by telecommunications companies and comprehensive cable broadcasting operators.
The KCC stated that it will focus on inspecting whether SK Telecom delayed or restricted contract cancellations without justifiable reasons. In addition, the commission will review possible improvements to the one-stop switching service system to ensure that users can freely and conveniently choose their telecommunications provider.
