Jeonnam Province Selects June Travel Destinations
Gwanbangjerim, Yunjelim, Seryangje Among Top Recommendations
Reflecting the recent trend among the MZ generation of "changing mom's KakaoTalk profile picture," Jeonnam Province has selected several photogenic destinations as recommended travel spots for June: Gwanbangjerim in Damyang, Yunjelim in Boseong, Buhung Village in Jangcheon, Gangjin, and Seryangje in Hwasun.
Gwanbangjerim in Damyang is a forest created during the Joseon Dynasty by building embankments to prevent flooding and then planting trees to preserve those embankments. Covering an area of about 40,000 square meters, the forest is filled with trees estimated to be over 300 years old. Its beautiful scenery has led to its designation as a Natural Monument, and it won the grand prize at the "National Beautiful Forest Competition" hosted by the Korea Forest Service.
The lush zelkova and cherry trees provide cool shade, making it a pleasant place for a summer walk. While strolling along the forest path, visitors can capture memorable photos with their parents under the vibrant sunlight filtering through the leaves.
Yunjelim in Boseong is a private garden cultivated since 1964. Spanning approximately 330,000 square meters, it features 60,000 trees, including pine and cypress, releasing phytoncides for visitors to enjoy a forest bath. Especially in mid-June, 40,000 hydrangeas bloom, creating a spectacular scene as the colorful flowers blend with the green forest. Visitors can take photos among the hydrangea fields and create lasting memories.
Seryangje in Hwasun is an artificial reservoir built to supply agricultural water. Quietly nestled behind a remote village deep in the valleys of Mudeungsan, it offers a tranquil and cozy landscape that leaves a strong impression.
The serene lake, adorned with cherry trees and morning mist, creates a dreamy atmosphere, making it one of the best photo spots in Jeonnam. It was also selected as one of CNN's "50 Must-Visit Places in Korea."
In June, Buhung Village in Jangcheon, Gangjin, is dyed in shades of purple. From June 20 to 22, the Elephant Garlic Flower Festival will be held here. Elephant garlic is a local specialty of Gangjin County, valued for both its flowers and bulbs for ornamental and culinary use. During the festival, Buhung Village exudes the charm of strolling through a European countryside lane.
Exotic flowers such as Shasta daisies and Oenothera cultivated by local residents, as well as photo zones and rest areas, allow visitors to experience the rural atmosphere, relax, and enjoy a walk among the flowers with their parents.
Shim Woojeong, Director of Tourism for Jeonnam Province, said, "Jeonnam boasts a variety of flowers that bloom and fade with each season, making it home to many photogenic spots. I hope that, by taking trendy profile photos, parents and their MZ-generation children can enjoy these places together and create special memories."
