Yang Jungwoong, the performance director who oversaw the opening ceremony of the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, has been appointed as the artistic director to lead the cultural events at the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, which will be held in Gyeongju in the second half of this year.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on May 2, Minister Cho Taeyeol presented the letter of appointment to Artistic Director Yang at the ministry building that day.
Artistic Director Yang has served as the chief director of the opening ceremony for the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the general director of the cultural event in return for the 2023 state visit to the Netherlands, the chief director of the cultural performance at the banquet for the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit, and the chief director of the 2024 Seoul Winter Festa. Additionally, he directed the play "Macbeth" starring Hwang Jungmin and the play "Faust" starring Park Haesoo.
Upon receiving the appointment letter, Artistic Director Yang stated, "It is an honor to have the opportunity to convey the beauty and value of Korean culture on the international stage of the APEC Summit. I will do my utmost to provide all participants with a profound cultural experience."
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said, "We will devote our utmost efforts to preparing the cultural events in close cooperation with the artistic director to ensure the successful hosting of the APEC Summit."
