The bail requests (conditional release with a security deposit, etc.) of Park Ansu, Chief of Staff of the Army, and Yeo Inhyeong, former Commander of the Defense Security Command, both of whom are on trial in detention for their involvement in the 12·3 Martial Law Incident, have been denied.
According to the Ministry of National Defense on May 2, the Central District Military Court recently reviewed their bail requests and rejected them, citing concerns about the destruction of evidence, among other reasons. As a result, Chief Park and former Commander Yeo will remain in military detention facilities while their trials proceed. Chief Park served as the martial law commander at the time the martial law was declared.
Previously, Lee Jinwoo, former Commander of the Capital Defense Command, also applied for bail to the military court, but his request was denied in February, also due to concerns about the destruction of evidence.
Meanwhile, Kwak Jonggeun, former Commander of the Army Special Warfare Command, who admitted to the charges against him during the trial, was released on bail last month.
