Gwangju City announced on the 3rd that the Samsung Electronics Gwangju Plant has donated 107 million won collected through the 'Nanum Kiosk' to support local children.
The 'Nanum Kiosk' is an unmanned donation terminal system where employees can read stories of children in crisis displayed on the kiosk screen and automatically donate 1,000 won per tap by tagging their employee ID card. This initiative began at the Samsung Electronics Gumi Plant based on employee suggestions, and the Gwangju Plant has participated since 2022.
The donations will be used to support the living expenses, housing, medical care, and education of families with children in crisis (at or below 100% of the median income) residing in Gwangju, through Save the Children’s Western Regional Office.
Jung Hyukjun, head of the Samsung Electronics Home Appliance Gwangju Support Center, said, "We hope to continue bringing hope to local children in crisis through the Nanum Kiosk," and added, "We will continue to work together with Gwangju City and Save the Children to share difficulties and strive for mutual growth through various social contribution activities."
Lee Youngdong, Director of the Department of Women and Family, stated, "We thank the Samsung Electronics employees for practicing sharing for the children of Gwangju," and continued, "We hope that the culture of everyday giving will create a butterfly effect, spreading widely to companies in various fields and encouraging active participation from many. Gwangju City will also do its best to improve child protection and welfare."
Meanwhile, the Samsung Electronics Gwangju Plant is engaged in various social contribution activities, including the Samsung Hope Stepping Stone support for youth preparing for independence after leaving facilities, talent-sharing volunteer work, the May Month of Sharing campaign, and donations of goods.
