The exercise simulated a large-scale oil and HNS (Hazardous and Noxious Substances) spill caused by a vessel collision, and proceeded in the following order: ▲ receiving marine pollution reports and taking initial response actions ▲ deciding on the operation of the response headquarters through a situation assessment meeting ▲ establishing response strategies for prompt countermeasures.
In particular, the focus was on strengthening the expertise of the response headquarters personnel and enhancing the cooperation system among related agencies, with a simulated implementation of marine pollution response procedures.
A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, "The Mokpo area has many islands and a high concentration of aquaculture farms, making prompt response to marine pollution accidents essential," and added, "We will continue to strengthen our response capabilities to marine pollution through ongoing training."
