Governor Kim Youngrok Proposes Establishment of AI Supercluster Hub to Ministry of Industry

Request for Designation of Yeosu as an Industrial Crisis Response Area
and Establishment of a Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage Cluster

Jeollanamdo Governor Kim Youngrok is meeting with Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Deokgeun at the Government Seoul Office on the 7th to propose solutions for current issues in the province, including the Solar City AI Supercluster Hub. Provided by Jeonnam Province

Kim Youngrok, Governor of Jeollanam-do, met with Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Ahn Deokgeun on the 7th to discuss key regional issues, including infrastructure for building an AI Supercluster Hub, designation as an industrial crisis response area, and the creation of a Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) cluster.

During the meeting, Governor Kim requested support for the construction of two substations to ensure a timely supply of sufficient power for the successful implementation of the world's largest Solaseado AI Supercluster Hub. He also called for a reduction in electricity rates for AI data centers to secure global competitiveness.

In particular, he proposed designating the Solaseado AI Supercluster Hub project as a national policy initiative and forming a pan-ministerial task force to promote investment.

Additionally, regarding the Shinan Offshore Wind Power Complex, he requested a prompt review by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Renewable Energy Policy Review Committee and designation of the complex, in order to achieve the government's offshore wind power supply targets and quickly establish a domestic industrial ecosystem.

He also asked for financial and tax support through the designation of new individual-type foreign investment zones, additional designation of special zones for foreign investment opportunities, and support for project costs for supply management and facility installation to ensure a stable supply of industrial water from the Yeongam Daebul Water Purification Plant to the project site.

To overcome the crisis in the Yeosu petrochemical industry and achieve a major industrial paradigm shift, he requested that the Yeosu region be promptly designated as an industrial crisis response area within March. He also suggested lowering the industrial electricity rates for the Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex to pre-increase levels to ensure the effectiveness of the industrial crisis response area.

Minister Ahn Deokgeun said, "We will actively review government-level support measures for the proposals from Jeollanam-do."
