Reducing Employee Burden and Strengthening Collaboration Culture
Up to 200,000 KRW Awarded for Accumulated Substitute Work Hours
Leading the Creation of a Family-Friendly Workplace Culture
Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 7th that starting next year, childcare time work substitutes will be awarded vacation points to address the low birthrate issue and foster a family-friendly workplace culture.
Through this project, employees who perform the duties on behalf of those using childcare time will receive vacation points. Vacation points will be awarded based on the total substitute work hours accumulated this year and can be used starting January next year.
The hourly rate for substitute work is 1,500 KRW, with a maximum annual payment of 200,000 KRW.
This system was introduced to officially compensate for the work gaps caused by the use of childcare time, reduce the burden on employees balancing childcare and work, and strengthen the collaborative culture within the organization.
As of 2024, a total of 213 employees in the civil service departments of Goyang City have used childcare time and maternity protection time, with a cumulative usage of 24,967 hours.
According to the Local Public Officials Service Regulations, public officials with children aged 8 or younger or in the second grade of elementary school or below can use up to 2 hours of childcare time per day, and pregnant public officials can use maternity protection time within a 2-hour daily limit.
A Goyang Special City official stated, “Creating a childbirth-friendly work environment is important to solve the low birthrate issue,” and added, “We will continue to support employees so they can stably balance work and childcare through this system.”
