'Shiri', Korea's First Blockbuster, Returns in 4K Remastered Version
Release Set for June 19
CJ ENM announced on the 6th that the 4K remastered version of Korea's first blockbuster film, "Shiri," will be released on the 19th of this month.
"Shiri" (directed by Kang Je-gyu) is a spy thriller depicting the intelligence war between Yoo Joong-won (Han Suk-kyu), a special agent of the national top-secret intelligence agency OP, and his colleague Lee Jang-gil (Song Kang-ho), against Park Moo-young (Choi Min-sik), the commander of North Korea's Special 8th Corps, North Korean spies, and internal traitors. The film stars Han Suk-kyu, Choi Min-sik, Song Kang-ho, and Kim Yoon-jin.
Released in 1999, it led the Korean film renaissance. At the 35th Baeksang Arts Awards, it won the Grand Prize in the film category, Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor awards, as well as the Best Director and Most Audience Award at the 20th Blue Dragon Film Awards.
