20,199 New Passenger Cars Imported in February... 24.4% Increase Year-on-Year

BMW ranks first...
Tesla Model Y becomes the best-selling model

The number of new registrations of imported passenger cars significantly increased last month due to the confirmation of electric vehicle subsidies and new car launches.


According to the Korea Imported Automobile Association on the 6th, the number of new registrations of imported passenger cars in February was 20,199, a 32.6% increase from 15,229 units in the previous month. Compared to the same period last year (16,237 units), it also rose by 24.4%.

By brand, BMW led with 6,274 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz with 4,663 units, Tesla with 2,222 units, Lexus with 1,337 units, and Volvo with 1,046 units.


Next were Porsche with 703 units, Toyota with 623 units, Audi with 609 units, Mini with 538 units, Volkswagen with 499 units, Land Rover with 442 units, Ford with 393 units, Honda with 298 units, Lincoln with 119 units, and Jeep with 111 units.


Additionally, Polestar had 71 units, Peugeot 40 units, Lamborghini 35 units, Chevrolet 33 units, Maserati 30 units, Ferrari 28 units, Bentley 26 units, Cadillac 25 units, GMC 21 units, and Rolls-Royce 13 units.


By engine displacement, vehicles under 2000cc accounted for 9,839 units (48.7%), 2000-3000cc accounted for 5,632 units (27.9%), 3000-4000cc for 613 units (3.0%), and over 4000cc for 358 units (1.8%).


By country, Europe accounted for 15,017 units (74.3%), Japan 2,258 units (11.2%), and the United States 2,924 units (14.5%). By fuel type, hybrids led with 13,013 units (64.4%), followed by electric vehicles with 3,757 units (18.6%), gasoline with 3,226 units (16.0%), and diesel with 203 units (1.0%).


Individual purchases totaled 13,068 units (64.7%), while corporate purchases were 7,131 units (35.3%).


The best-selling models in February were the Tesla Model Y (2,038 units), Mercedes-Benz E 200 (927 units), and BMW 520 (922 units).


Jung Yoon-young, Vice Chairman of the Korea Imported Automobile Association, explained, "Last month saw an increase compared to the previous month due to electric vehicle registrations following the confirmation of subsidies and the new car effects of some brands."
