Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi-do is constructing a public complex building in Gwangmyeong 3-dong that will house administrative, cultural, and welfare functions. Although large-scale redevelopment apartments are being occupied one after another, the plan is to utilize the building as a relatively scarce regional cultural hub.

On the 5th, Gwangmyeong City announced that it will build the Gwangmyeong 3-dong Public Complex Building within the Gwangmyeong 4R redevelopment area, where apartment construction is underway, to provide integrated cultural, administrative, and welfare public services.
The public complex building, spanning from two basement floors to six above-ground floors with a total floor area of 8,408㎡, began construction in May last year. The total project cost is 38.665 billion KRW, and completion is scheduled for May next year. The city plans not only to relocate the existing outdated administrative welfare center but also to establish a regional hub space to address the cultural imbalance in the Gwangmyeong-dong area, which is relatively lacking.
To this end, the city held a "Public Complex Building Interior Design Report Meeting" at the Lifelong Learning Center on the morning of the 5th. According to the report, the interior space of the building will apply "Biophilic Design." Biophilic Design refers to incorporating plants and natural elements so that people can feel nature even indoors. To achieve this, green plants will be placed throughout the building’s interior, and wood will be primarily used to create a warm and nature-friendly atmosphere. Additionally, curved structures will be applied to design the space more freely and openly.
The first and second floors of the building will be used as an administrative welfare center, a resident autonomy center, and a community care center. A daycare center will be established on the first to third floors above ground. In particular, the third floor will be designed as an outdoor learning and play area with water play facilities. The women's communication and cultural space on the fourth floor will include ▲a lounge ▲counseling rooms ▲therapy rooms ▲childcare sharing area ▲small group spaces ▲a clay room ▲and a dry sauna. The fifth and sixth floors will house a library and a public community center, respectively.
Park Seung-won, mayor of Gwangmyeong City, said, "The public complex building with various integrated functions will become an open space accessible to all citizens," adding, "We will continue to expand citizen-centered public complex facilities in the future."
