The city of Gwangju announced on the 28th that it held an inauguration ceremony for the '10th Gwangju Youth Committee' in the main conference room of City Hall on the afternoon of the 27th.

The 10th Youth Committee is composed of 50 young people aged 19 to 39 residing in Gwangju, selected through an open recruitment process that ended on the 5th. The term runs from February 27 to December 31, with the possibility of one reappointment.

At the inauguration ceremony, Mayor Kang Gijung presented appointment letters to the youth committee members and communicated with them, explaining Gwangju's main youth policies such as the Work & Experience Dream initiative.

Mayor Kang said, "Thank you for joining the Youth Committee. Please be active so that the voices of young people can be reflected in Gwangju's youth policies," and added, "The city of Gwangju will always stand by you to support the power of youth."

The inauguration ceremony included a presentation on the achievements and annual operation plan of the Youth Committee, as well as a networking session for the 10th committee members. The Youth Committee operates four subcommittees: Economy & Jobs, Education & Career, Culture & Quality of Life, and Participation & Public Relations. Through gathering opinions and conducting research activities on topics relevant to each subcommittee, they propose youth policies to the city of Gwangju.

Meanwhile, since 2015, Gwangju has been the first local government in the country to operate a Youth Committee, having received a total of 185 youth policy proposals. Of these, 39 outstanding policies were selected, and 38 were reflected in city administration, including the enactment of the Basic Youth Ordinance, the provision of youth policy information services for prospective youth, and the establishment of an integrated youth platform.
