Goryeong County (Governor Lee Nam-cheol) conducted an on-site visit on the 4th following the completion of the first phase of the ‘Goryeong Jusanseong Nightscape Project.’ This project is being carried out to enhance the nighttime recognition of national heritage and to utilize it as an urban landmark.

The fortress is located on Jusan, also called Isan, to the west of Goryeong. It is a stone fortress built during the Daegaya period. The current nightscape lighting installation project is being carried out in three phases according to the ‘Jusanseong Comprehensive Maintenance Plan.’

The first phase focuses on the ‘Golden Thread’ (Jisandong Burial Mounds ~ Outer Fortress of Jusanseong ~ Mineral Spring) to emphasize the historical symbolism and dignity of Jusanseong. The second phase, themed ‘Light of Restraint’ (Inner and Outer Fortress Trails of Jusanseong), aims to secure safe illumination without light pollution and create a pleasant space. The third phase, themed ‘Light of Dignity’ (Jusanseong Summit ~ Ureuk Memorial Tower), will create a warm and dignified space representing the symbolic landscape of Daegaya.

The first phase of the Jusanseong project, implemented in 2024, involved an investment of approximately 400 million KRW. The county plans to do its best to secure national funding for the lighting project of the Jisandong Burial Mounds along with the ongoing Jusanseong nightscape construction (about 200 million KRW) this year.

Once the lighting construction is completed by 2026, the project will be finalized with the creation of three zones: ▲Distant View Zone (Daegaya Ancient Capital Night Landmark Creation) ▲Trail Management Zone (Activation and Safety Assurance of Night Trails from Jusanseong to Jisandong Burial Mounds) ▲Peripheral Connection Zone (Nightscape Development linked to Daegaya History Theme Tourism Site and Daegaya Museum). This will coincide with the registration of the Gaya Burial Mounds as a World Heritage Site and the designation of Daegaya Ancient Capital, completing the nightscape project.

Lee Nam-cheol, Governor of Goryeong County, stated, “Through the Jusanseong nightscape project, we will strive to create a representative historical space that showcases the beautiful night view of Goryeong along with the World Heritage Jisandong Burial Mounds.”
