'Geomeun Sunjudeul' Ranks Second,
'Haerbin' Comes in Third
The comedy-action film 'Hitman 2' starring Kwon Sang-woo was the biggest hit at the theaters during the Lunar New Year golden holiday. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated box office data as of the 31st, it attracted about 1.27 million viewers over six days from the 25th to the 30th, topping the box office. The cumulative audience reached approximately 1.52 million.
The occult film 'Geomeun Sunjudeul' (The Black Nuns) starring Song Hye-kyo ranked second during the same period with over 1.01 million viewers. It was released on the 24th and had led the box office until the 27th, when it was overtaken by 'Hitman 2.' Its cumulative audience is about 1.19 million.
Audience satisfaction for both films is not very high. Based on actual viewer ratings, the CGV Golden Egg Index shows 'Hitman 2' at 82% and 'Geomeun Sunjudeul' at 76%.
'Haerbin' (Harbin), starring Hyun Bin and released on the 24th of last month, showed strong staying power and ranked third. It attracted about 220,000 viewers during the Lunar New Year holiday, surpassing a cumulative audience of 4.8 million. Fourth place went to the fantasy film 'Malhal Su Eomneun Bimil' (Secret That Cannot Be Told) starring Do Kyung-soo. Among the three Korean films released targeting the Lunar New Year holiday, it drew the smallest audience with about 190,000 viewers.
