26 Years of Yeongdeungpo-gu Office Staff's Warm Winter Volunteer Service

Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it is conducting talent donation activities by visiting social welfare facilities and vulnerable households to prevent winter safety accidents.

This goodwill initiative involves about 20 employees from the Flood Control Division working at eight rainwater pumping stations, continuing from December last year until the end of February. The staff visit 25 vulnerable households, including elderly living alone and basic livelihood security recipients, as well as 57 social welfare facilities such as daycare centers and senior citizen centers.

For vulnerable households, simple home repairs such as lighting, outlets, washbasins, and toilet maintenance or replacement are carried out, along with inspections of heating devices and electrical systems to prevent fires. For social welfare facilities, the overall condition of facilities is checked, including distribution boards, ground-fault circuit interrupters, proper operation of fire safety equipment, and gas facility safety.

These workers are skilled technicians holding certifications in electrical and mechanical fields, meticulously inspecting facilities based on their expertise to prevent safety accidents that frequently occur during winter. The talent donation program began in 2000 and has continued for 26 years this year.

The district plans to expand talent donation activities to young single-person households with poor living conditions, supporting them to live in safe and comfortable residential environments.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, “The warm hearts of employees sharing their talents for neighbors in need give great inspiration to all of us,” and added, “Since the risk of fire accidents is high in winter, we will carefully monitor the surroundings to ensure a safe and warm winter.”
