Free Replacement of Defective Film-Type License Plates
Citizens Urged to Replace Damaged Plates Promptly to Avoid Penalties
The Ulsan Vehicle Registration Office has been providing free replacements for citizens experiencing inconvenience due to defective film-type license plates issued since July 2020.
The free replacement applies to film-type license plates engraved with the Taegeuk pattern and 3D holographic images that have become difficult to read with the naked eye due to peeling, lifting, cracking, or contamination.
However, license plates damaged due to careless handling (such as prolonged exposure to high pressure, steam car washes, vehicle painting, stone chips, etc.) and existing paint-type license plates are excluded from the free replacement program.
Vehicle owners wishing to receive a free replacement can visit the license plate issuance office within the Ulsan Vehicle Registration Office with their vehicle registration certificate to get the replacement.
An official from the Vehicle Registration Office stated, “Continuing to drive with a damaged license plate may result in fines or other penalties, so we urge you to get a free replacement as soon as possible.”
The Vehicle Registration Office plans to continue promoting information about the eligibility and procedures for free replacement to resolve citizen inconveniences caused by defective film-type license plates.
