14 Arrested for Defamation and Insult in 'Jeju Air Disaster' Case... 1 Person Subject to Arrest Warrant Request

The police have arrested 14 individuals who posted malicious articles and videos defaming and insulting the victims and bereaved families of the Jeju Air passenger plane disaster, and have applied for an arrest warrant for one of them.

On the 23rd, the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency announced that they are currently investigating a total of 233 cases and are continuously tracking the malicious post authors.


The Busan Cyber Investigation Unit additionally arrested two suspects who posted multiple videos claiming that the footage of the crashed passenger plane was manipulated, thereby defaming the victims and their families. An arrest warrant was applied for one of them the previous day.


A police official stated, “We will promptly investigate and strictly prosecute any acts of posting malicious content targeting victims and bereaved families online. We ask that people refrain from spreading rumors and posting malicious articles and videos to prevent further suffering of the bereaved families.”
