Yeonggwang County in Jeonnam announced on the 23rd that it will actively promote its marine waste cleanup project this year.

Last year, the county collected a total of approximately 1,200 tons of marine waste, focusing on coastal and island areas, contributing to the improvement of the local marine environment.

To protect the marine environment, the county plans to implement projects such as ▲marine waste cleanup ▲purchase of waste collected during fishing operations ▲response to waste on vulnerable coastlines. A total budget of about 800 million KRW will be allocated this year.

The cleanup project is a resident participation initiative involving local residents, fishermen, institutions, and social organizations, thereby also contributing to revitalizing the local economy.

Prior to participation, safety education will be provided to all participants to prevent accidents, and systematic and diverse forms of cleanup activities will be carried out.

In island and coastal areas that are difficult to access, Yeonggwang County plans to strengthen its marine waste prevention and management system and continuously expand coastal cleanup activities through monitoring with drones and waste collection using fishing vessels.

A county official stated, "To pass on a clean sea to future generations, we will strengthen the marine waste prevention and management system and continue to promote coastal cleanup activities."
