Korean cuisine researcher Shim Young-soon named singer Shim Soo-bong and Hotel Shilla president Lee Boo-jin as her disciples.


On the afternoon of the 20th, Channel A's entertainment program 'Close Friends Tokyumentary: Table for Four' featured Korean cuisine researcher Shim Young-soon inviting hanbok designer Park Sul-nyeo, former ssireum wrestler Lee Man-gi, and singer Park Gun. Shim Young-soon served a New Year's meal to her acquaintances at her countryside house in Yongin, where she moved two years ago.

In the broadcast, Shim Young-soon shared the story of her 50-year journey from an ordinary housewife to a Korean cuisine researcher.


Having grown up watching her mother, who was skilled at cooking, Shim Young-soon started making lunchboxes for her children, and as word spread about her cooking skills, she began giving cooking lessons to parents at middle and high schools. She said, "Before that, I was a housewife," and added, "Since I was interested in cooking, I attended cooking classes and obtained a chef's license."


Shim Young-soon, who still teaches cooking once a week, mentioned, "There are students I have taught for 34 years," referring to Shim Soo-bong and Hotel Shilla president Lee Boo-jin.


She said, "Shim Soo-bong was so involved that it was hard to tell if she was a singer, a housewife, or a restaurant owner," and added, "She couldn't help but be beautiful." She continued, "She invited me to her performance, and after singing one verse on stage, she said, 'Is Shim Young-soon teacher here? Thank you for coming, teacher.' I was so surprised."

She also said, "Lee Boo-jin is such a kind person. She is humble. I didn't even know she was the daughter of such a family. I didn't realize it for a long time."


She added, "When I saw her face in a magazine, I thought, 'Isn't she my student?' and then I recognized her," and said, "There are many famous people among my students."


Meanwhile, vegetable soup was served as dessert at the gathering, and everyone praised its healthy taste. Shim Young-soon explained, "It was boiled for 12 hours," and shared, "I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. They said I wouldn't live more than two months. My second daughter packed her things and came to our house. She came to save me. She made vegetable soup and fed me three meals a day. She also got medicine for me. After about a year of filming, the cancer miraculously disappeared. My second daughter saved me," surprising everyone.
