Unlike eight years ago when President-elect Donald Trump delivered aggressive remarks during the launch of his first term, his inaugural address on the 20th (local time) is expected to convey a more positive message, declaring "a new era of American success."
The US daily Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported this, citing multiple sources, after obtaining an excerpt of the draft inaugural address just hours before the ceremony. Trump will hold the inauguration ceremony at the central hall of the US Capitol and officially take office as the 47th President of the United States.
According to WSJ, the draft of President-elect Trump's inaugural address states, "I return to the presidency with confidence and optimism that we are at the beginning of an exhilarating new era of national success," and "a wave of change is sweeping the country."
It also says, "My message to Americans today is that now is the time for us to act once again with the courage, strength, and vitality of the greatest civilization in history."
Multiple sources involved in drafting the speech explained that this expression is much more positive compared to the 2017 inauguration of Trump's first term. They added, "Compared to the first inauguration, which used harsh words like 'carnage' to describe the state of America, this draft is much more positively framed."
Additionally, WSJ predicted that the draft inaugural address will focus on a "revolution of common sense." WSJ noted that through this inauguration, President-elect Trump is expected to complete the historic return to the White House and begin agendas such as large-scale immigrant deportations, high tariffs, and federal government restructuring.
However, since President-elect Trump is known for frequently deviating from prepared speeches to make impromptu remarks, it is uncertain how much of the draft will actually be reflected in his inaugural address.
