Dongducheon City Hall Skating Team Achieves Great Success with 2 Gold and 3 Bronze Medals at National Winter Sports Festival

The Dongducheon City Hall Skating Team, reestablished three years after disbandment (Coach In-sik Lee), achieved a remarkable feat by winning two gold medals and three bronze medals at the preliminary speed skating competition of the 106th National Winter Sports Festival held from the 15th to the 17th at the Taereung International Skating Rink.

In the men's general division, Cha Min-gyu of the Dongducheon City Hall Skating Team won the gold medal in the 1000m event (1 minute 10.28 seconds), beating Jo Sang-hyeok (1 minute 10.42 seconds, Uijeongbu City Hall) and Oh Hyun-min (1 minute 11.03 seconds, Sports Toto). In the women's general division, Kim Yoon-ji won bronze medals in the 1500m, 3000m, and mass start events.

Additionally, Kim Yoon-ji participated as a member of the Gyeonggi Province representative team (Kim Yoon-ji, Kim Min-ji (Hwaseong City Hall), Guillermin Charlotte (Gyeonggi General)) in the team pursuit event and won a gold medal.

Coach In-sik Lee of the Dongducheon City Hall Skating Team said, "I am pleased that the athletes demonstrated the skills they have honed and achieved good results," adding, "We expect good results at the 2025 Harbin Winter Asian Games to be held in February."

Park Hyung-deok, Mayor of Dongducheon, said, "I am proud that our city's skating team achieved excellent results. The recent achievements of the Dongducheon City Hall Skating Team will greatly contribute to the ongoing efforts to attract an international speed skating rink to Dongducheon," and added, "The city will continue to do its best to support the development of the skating team and the attraction of a speed skating rink within the city."
