LG Energy Solution Achieves Top-Level Cybersecurity Certification... "First in Domestic Battery Industry"

LG Energy Solution has become the first company in the domestic battery industry to obtain the Cyber Security Management System (CSMS) Level 3 certification.

LG Energy Solution announced that it has acquired the CSMS Level 3 certification based on the international standard ISO/SAE 21434 from the international testing and certification body T?V Rheinland.

The CSMS certification is awarded to companies that have established a system capable of managing cyber security risks for automotive software and electrical/electronic components.

Following its acquisition of the CSMS Level 2 certification in April last year, LG Energy Solution succeeded in achieving Level 3 certification in less than a year. While Level 2 certification verifies whether a thorough security system is established from design to production processes, Level 3 certification confirms that the highest level of security system is maintained throughout the entire process from design to post-mass production for actual products.

Among domestic battery companies, LG Energy Solution is the first to receive Level 3 certification.

The importance of data security in batteries installed in electric vehicles has increased as the automotive industry enters the era of software-defined vehicles (SDV). Electric vehicle batteries have evolved beyond simply storing and supplying energy; they now provide various services that produce and utilize data such as user driving information, battery performance, and safety. LG Energy Solution is conducting related business under the brand Battery Management Total Solution (BMTS).

Globally, cyber security and related regulations are also being strengthened. According to the vehicle security regulation (UNR155) established by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), cyber security management system certification is mandatory to sell vehicles in 56 UNECE contracting countries, including the European Union (EU), North America, and Asia.

Daehun Lee, General Manager of the BMS Development Group at LG Energy Solution, stated, "As the importance of cyber security continues to grow, we have demonstrated high technological capability and reliability through this CSMS Level 3 certification. We will maximize customer value and further strengthen our competitiveness in the global market through safe data-based business expansion and innovative solutions."
