President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is accused of being the ringleader of the rebellion due to the proclamation of the '12·3 Emergency Martial Law,' departed from Seoul Detention Center on the 18th to attend the pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) at the court.
The Ministry of Justice's escort van carrying President Yoon left the main gate of Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi-do, at around 1:26 p.m. that day.
Security vehicles surrounded the escort van as they moved together. It was the first time in three days that President Yoon had come outside Seoul Detention Center since his arrest and detention on the 15th. After his arrest, President Yoon received his first interrogation at the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials but had refused further summons.
The warrant review for President Yoon will be held from 2 p.m. that day at the Seoul Western District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Cha Eun-kyung.
It is reported that President Yoon plans to personally explain the legitimacy of the emergency martial law proclamation in court and argue that the charge of rebellion does not apply. The defense team is expected to include lawyers Kim Hong-il, Yoon Gap-geun, Seok Dong-hyun, Song Hae-eun, Cha Ki-hwan, Kim Gye-ri, and Lee Dong-chan.
From the Corruption Investigation Office, six prosecutors including the lead prosecutor, Deputy Chief Prosecutor Cha Jeong-hyun, will attend.
