Daegu Agricultural Meister High School Visits Yeongju to Learn Smart Farming
The Gyeongbuk Yeongju Agricultural Technology Center (Director Han Sang-suk) conducted a training session on the 8th to strengthen the expertise in smart farms for teachers at Daegu Agricultural Meister High School.
This training consisted of on-site visits and education where participants directly experienced smart farm operations at a Shine Muscat farm and a citrus (Hallabong and Redhyang) farm located in Punggi-eup, enhancing their practical skills.
In August 2022, Yeongju City signed a business agreement with Korea Polytechnic University Yeongju Campus to respond to the decline and aging of the agricultural population and to aim for high-quality agricultural products and labor reduction in Yeongju.
Based on this, the ‘Smart Farm Regional On-site Support Center’ is operated using the Smart Engineering Building at Korea Polytechnic University Yeongju Campus, providing basic and field education on smart farms to farmers.
In particular, two experimental studies conducted in Punggi-eup have attracted attention for the successful dissemination of smart farms. The Shine Muscat ground mulching smart farm development experiment and the citrus regional adaptation cultivation demonstration test contribute to verifying and spreading smart farm technologies suitable for the agricultural environment of the Yeongju area.
During this training, specific cases of ICT convergence technology applied to agriculture were shared, and discussions were held on the future direction of smart agriculture. Additionally, the development of technologies to increase agricultural efficiency and sustainability, as well as plans to expand field-centered smart farm education, were important topics of discussion.
A representative from the Yeongju Agricultural Technology Center stated, “Since smart farms are a field that general farmers find difficult to access easily, we have prepared practical and efficient dissemination plans through prior demonstration tests and research,” and added, “We will continue education and support to spread smart agriculture and strengthen expertise.”
