Promotion of New Advertising Agency Business for Seoul Subway Lines 1 to 8 Stations and Trains Advertisement Example

Seoul Metro is inviting bids for a new operator to manage 271 stations across Lines 1 to 8 and 303 train sets.

This project, including new train sets, covers a total of 76,876 units, making it the largest scale ever. To enhance operational efficiency, the lines are grouped into three clusters (Lines 1 and 2 / Lines 3, 4, and 6 / Lines 5, 7, and 8) for the bidding process.

The project scope includes three types of advertising inside stations: ▲lighting (wide color) advertisements ▲poster advertisements ▲station wrapping, and four types inside trains: ▲framed ads ▲corner ads ▲interior lighting ads (frames above doors) ▲train wrapping.

By including analog advertising media in this project, the company aims to expand advertising participation opportunities for small and local businesses that might be marginalized during the digital transition, thereby promoting regional economic revitalization and mutual growth.

The bidding is conducted with the condition of removing high-position lighting advertisements (54 stations, 114 locations). After removal, these locations will be converted into high-value digital media. This will address safety issues and improve the station environment.

The bidding started on the 27th on Onbid, proceeding in the order of 'Lines 1 and 2' → 'Lines 3, 4, and 6' → 'Lines 5, 7, and 8'. The selected operator will manage the advertising agency business for three years starting from February upon contract signing.

Kim Jeong-hwan, Head of the Strategic Business Division, stated, “We plan to gradually improve the subway station environment by ensuring safety and profitability through the removal of outdated advertising facilities and expansion of digital advertising. Additionally, we aim to diversify revenue structures and contribute to economic revitalization through cooperation with local communities.”
