Student Health Promotion and Academic Support
Daegu Catholic University was selected as the top university in the ‘2024 One Thousand Won Breakfast Best Practice Contest’ hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and received the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award.

The One Thousand Won Breakfast project provides balanced meals at an affordable price (1000 won) to college students with a high rate of breakfast skipping. Daegu Catholic University supports students' health improvement and academic performance through the operation of this project.
The university cafeteria prepared various menus and analyzed daily demand to improve operational efficiency. Especially during exam periods, simple meals using rice (such as rice madeleines, rice cakes, sikhye, and rice burgers) were offered to students, receiving positive responses.
The operating cost of the One Thousand Won Breakfast is managed by combining the student contribution of 1000 won with government, local government, and school subsidies to provide a high-quality breakfast worth about 5000 won.
This reduces the meal expenses burden per student and helps decrease the breakfast skipping rate. The project was promoted through the school website, SNS, and posters inside school buses.
Additionally, through cooperation with the NongHyup Gyeongsan City Branch, 1 ton of rice was donated and used to provide better meals and snacks to students.
A representative from Daegu Catholic University said, “Thanks to the active participation and feedback from students, we improved operational efficiency and received the top award. We will continue to operate the One Thousand Won Breakfast project to support students' health and academics and strengthen cooperation with the local community.”
This contest selected 14 universities nationwide, including Daegu Catholic University, as best practice cases, with particularly high evaluations for the rice-based simple meals provided during exam periods and achievements in community cooperation.
