The grand prize was awarded to the Purme Foundation, established in 2005, which has supported rehabilitation and independence for people with disabilities. The Purme Foundation provides rehabilitation treatment to over 600,000 children with disabilities, and its Purme Social Farm employs young adults with developmental disabilities as full-time workers to cultivate and sell agricultural products. The foundation plans to use the entire prize money (150 million KRW) as funds to pioneer projects for people with disabilities.
For the excellence award in the organization category, the 'Korea Single Mothers Support Network,' which provides various support services to single mothers, was selected. In the individual category, Mr. Kim Byung-rok, who has run a small shoe repair shop of about 3 pyeong while volunteering by repairing and sharing goods with marginalized neighbors, was chosen. Mr. Kim also received the 1% Sharing Award, decided by votes from HD Hyundai employees.
Baek Kyung-hak, Executive Director of the Purme Foundation, said, "We have worked for the past 20 years to support the poor rehabilitation environment for people with disabilities and help them participate as members of society," adding, "We will do our best to solve the most urgent issues for people with disabilities."
Kwon Oh-gap, Chairman of the HD Hyundai 1% Sharing Foundation, stated, "Thanks to those who serve marginalized neighbors, we have been able to move toward a better society this year as well," and added, "The HD Hyundai 1% Sharing Foundation will continue to carry on the intentions of the award recipients."
