In 2025, to expand the distribution of weighing devices in apartment complexes, the eligibility criteria for support will be changed from apartment complexes with 150 or more households to those with 60 or more households.
Goyang City plans to secure the project volume for the 2025 RFID weighing device project through this demand survey, and complexes wishing to participate in this project must submit the demand survey form by January 3rd of next year.
The RFID weighing device is a volume-based system recommended as the top priority by the Ministry of Environment, which charges fees based on the weight of food waste disposed of using a disposal card, and it is highly effective in reducing food waste.
Recent investigations on the food waste reduction rates in complexes using weighing devices confirmed a reduction rate of over 40%. It has the advantage of allowing immediate disposal of even small amounts of food waste without the need to store it at home, and the disposal site surroundings can be kept clean.
In particular, since fees are charged based on the amount disposed of by each household, it enables differential charging per household instead of the existing equal charging per household (payment certificate method), clearly realizing the principle of burden on the disposer.
A Goyang City official stated, "Since the RFID weighing device charges fees immediately when users dispose of food waste, the voluntary intention to reduce waste leads to a decrease in the amount of food waste generated and reduces processing costs, thereby reducing carbon emissions," and added, "We will take the lead in reducing food waste by expanding the distribution of RFID weighing devices so that more citizens can use them."
