On the 17th at 2 PM, Busan City will hold the 'Social Value Management (ESG) Capacity Building Support Project Results Report Meeting' at the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chairman Yang Jae-saeng) International Conference Hall, in collaboration with the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Small and Medium Business Corporation (Chairman Kang Seok-jin).
The report meeting will be attended by Lee Jun-seung, Deputy Mayor of Busan, Jeong Hyun-min, Vice Chairman of the Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Seo Seong-gyu, Head of the Manufacturing Innovation Department at the Small and Medium Business Corporation, as well as 16 companies including four prime contractors participating in the win-win cooperation model?▲Goryeo Steel ▲BMT ▲Corens EM ▲Techcross?and three partner companies per enterprise, totaling over 80 companies.
This results report meeting was organized to review the achievements made with the companies participating in this year’s support project, share future directions, and strengthen the commitment to win-win cooperation.
Additionally, after the report meeting, an expert lecture on the latest issues related to social value management (ESG) and excellent development cases for Busan companies will be held to raise awareness among local companies about the increasingly stringent supply chain due diligence obligations centered on advanced countries and to enhance their response capabilities.
The 'Social Value Management (ESG) Capacity Building Support Project' is the nation’s first to establish a 'win-win cooperation model' where Busan prime contractors and partner companies form a team, proactively responding to the social value management (ESG) environment and supporting customized diagnosis and consulting to improve ESG capabilities.
Now in its second year following last year, the city, Busan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Small and Medium Business Corporation are jointly promoting the project. This year, participating companies have achieved results such as preparing external disclosure systems including sustainability reports and greenhouse gas emission management systems, and developing practical response capabilities for carbon reduction.
In particular, this year’s participating company ‘Techcross’ and last year’s participating company ‘Sungwoo Hitech’ received the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Commendation in the comprehensive social value management (ESG) category at the ‘2024 Sustainability Management Government Awards Ceremony’ held on the 10th.
Next year, based on this year’s project achievements, the budget will be increased, and support will be expanded with a focus on export companies facing crises due to the recent increase in external uncertainties.
Lee Jun-seung, Deputy Mayor of Busan, stated, “Social value management (ESG) is no longer a matter of choice but a crucial factor determining corporate survival. Prime contractors and partner companies must unite to build the capacity to proactively respond to changes and turn the current crisis into an opportunity.” He added, “I am grateful to the companies that have worked together to spread social value management (ESG) and revitalize the local economy despite difficult conditions, and our city will also spare no support to create a healthy social value management (ESG) ecosystem.”
