Baek Seon-hee, a member of the Joguk Innovation Party, said on the 13th, "I will definitely pass the impeachment motion with my fellow lawmakers, carrying the aspirations of the people."
On the same day, after taking the oath as a member of the National Assembly during the plenary session, Representative Baek said, "I have inherited the position of a lawmaker in these harsh times. My heart is heavy."
Representative Baek succeeded the position of former Joguk Innovation Party leader Jo Guk, who lost his seat after being sentenced to two years in prison by the Supreme Court the previous day. Earlier that morning, the Central Election Commission decided Baek Seon-hee, ranked 13th on the proportional representation candidate list, as the successor.
Representative Baek said, "As soon as I became a lawmaker, I participated in the vote on the presidential impeachment motion," adding, "I believe impeachment is a new beginning for the Republic of Korea. I will definitely pass the impeachment motion with my fellow lawmakers, carrying the aspirations of all the people who held candles through the cold winter."
She also stated, "I will inherit former Representative Jo's will to end prosecutorial dictatorship early and to establish an advanced welfare state with social rights," and "I will also inherit former Representative Jo's passion for the people and his earnestness toward democracy."
