Since November last year, Wonju City has invested a total project cost of 2 billion KRW, including 1 billion KRW in national funds, to install observatories and convenience facilities and maintain the trail along the 4.4 km section from Heungwonchang to Seom River and Namhan River.
In particular, a 2.4 km pedestrian path from Beopcheon Small Park to Heungwonchang was maintained, and three resting areas were installed, allowing visitors to enjoy the stunning Heungwonchang sunset and the beautiful scenery of the Namhan River, which are among the best in Korea.
Additionally, an observatory modeled after the Joseon-era transport boats was installed at Heungwonchang, which was responsible for grain transportation during the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, allowing visitors to reflect on its historical significance.
Mayor Won Gang-su of Wonju City stated, “We will make every effort to ensure that the National Ecological Trail centered on Heungwonchang, which possesses outstanding historical value and ecological tourism resources, becomes a new tourist attraction in Wonju City.”
