Online and Offline Event Held at Samsung Financial Campus Until the 25th
Samsung Group's Hoam Foundation announced on the 13th that it will hold the youth-specialized lecture program 'Fun&Run, 2024 Winter Hot Talk Festival' both online and offline at the Samsung Financial Campus in Seocho-gu, Seoul, from the 23rd to the 25th.
Now in its 8th edition, this lecture series aims to deliver the latest scientific and humanities knowledge to teenagers and assist them in exploring future career paths. The event will be held under themes such as 'The Era of AI and Robots' (Day 1), 'Heroes Saving the Earth' (Day 2), and 'In Search of the Secrets of the Universe' (Day 3). Nine experts from various fields will communicate with the youth through easy and engaging lectures and Q&A sessions.
On the first day, the 23rd, Bae Soon-min, head of KT AI Future Lab, will give a lecture titled 'Imagination+ Creating the Future of the AI World,' discussing the development process, prospects, and challenges of AI. Professor Lee Sang-wook of Hanyang University will present 'AI, The Future Does Not Come,' explaining the skills teenagers need to lead the AI era proactively. Professor Gong Kyung-chul of KAIST will talk about 'Wearable Robots,' sharing stories about the process and achievements of creating robots worn by people who need assistance with movement.
On the second day, Professor Ha Kyung-ja of Pusan National University will introduce 'The Secrets of Abnormal Climate and Future Extreme Weather,' explaining the truths about abnormal climate identified through climate data amid the rapidly changing climate crisis and its future. Professor Emeritus Park Gil-sung of Korea University will share vivid experiences under the theme 'Sailing Across the Pacific with Dreams Aboard,' discussing the grandeur of nature encountered in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and our efforts to protect it. Professor Lee Kwang-ryul of Korea University will explain 'Chemistry for a Clean and Comfortable Earth,' describing various research and practical measures undertaken by chemists to protect the planet in an easy-to-understand manner.
On the final third day, the 25th, Professor Jeon Myung-won of Kyung Hee University will share fascinating stories about stars and galaxies revealed through observations under the theme 'The First Stars and Galaxies of the Universe.' Following this, a stellar science communicator will lecture on 'The Universe Beyond Imagination,' covering the mysteries of the universe such as black holes and dark matter, along with the latest research findings. Professor Park In-gyu, distinguished professor at the University of Seoul, will talk about 'In Search of the Vanished Neutrinos,' revealing the secrets and mysteries of neutrinos, known as ghost particles.
Anyone can watch the lectures live through the Hoam Foundation’s YouTube channel. Separately, teenagers who pre-register on the Eventus website by the 19th can participate in the lectures either on-site or via Zoom.
This lecture series is actively utilized as transitional semester-end classes before the winter vacation in middle and high schools nationwide. Approximately 50,000 students from about 200 schools across the country participate annually.
Since 2021, the Hoam Foundation has been providing free lectures twice a year, in summer and winter, offering teenagers the latest scientific and humanities knowledge and lectures necessary for designing their futures, helping them to explore independently and set goals.
The Hoam Foundation is a public interest corporation established in 1997 in accordance with the will of Samsung Group’s founder, Chairman Lee Byung-chul.
