Gwangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Bang Se-hwan) announced on the 12th that on the 10th, they visited the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport along with officials from Hanam City to propose improvements to the revised draft for the implementation of the 5th Taxi Total Volume System ('25~'29).

Gwangju City reported that even after increasing the number of taxis by 89 through the reapplication and recalculation of the 4th Taxi Total Volume System, the population per taxi stands at 771.4. This ranks 4th nationwide, reflecting the current taxi supply situation, which is among the lowest in the country.

Additionally, regarding the revised guidelines for the 5th Taxi Total Volume System, although there are changes compared to previous versions in the investigation methods, calculation formulas, and total volume adjustment indicators, the uniform criteria set do not reflect the conditions of mixed urban and rural areas, raising concerns that the total number of taxis could be reduced below the current level.

A Gwangju City official stated, “As solutions to this issue, we proposed to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to maintain the provisions reflecting regional conditions from the existing 4th Taxi Total Volume System and to consider a grace period in case of reductions during the 5th calculation.”
