Legislation Committee Investigates Yoon's Emergency Martial Law 'Treason Charges'... Permanent Special Prosecutor Passed

The National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee passed a request on the 9th for a permanent special prosecutor investigation to determine charges of rebellion related to the 'emergency martial law incident.'

On the same day, the Legislation and Judiciary Committee approved the so-called permanent special prosecutor bill on acts of rebellion, which was primarily proposed by Kim Yong-min, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea.

The Democratic Party included President Yoon Seok-yeol in the scope of the permanent special prosecutor investigation, along with General Yeo In-hyung, Commander of the Defense Counterintelligence Command, who was accused of leading the arrests of key politicians after the declaration of martial law, Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who approved the emergency martial law at the State Council meeting, and Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People Power Party, who is suspected of obstructing the assembly of People Power Party members in the plenary session hall.

Kim Seung-won, the subcommittee chairman from the Democratic Party, told reporters immediately after the meeting, "The emergency situation and rebellion are still ongoing, and since President Yoon has abandoned the people, the people also think they have abandoned President Yoon."

Members of the People Power Party opposed the expansion of the permanent special prosecutor's investigation targets. Yoo Sang-beom, a member of the People Power Party and the ruling party's secretary, said regarding the inclusion of Choo Kyung-ho in the investigation, "It is clearly evident that Floor Leader Choo had no involvement in the process of implementing martial law," and "The Democratic Party's actions are merely general provocations suggesting that the ruling party is complicit in martial law, which we absolutely cannot accept."

The permanent special prosecutor bill is expected to be submitted to the plenary session on the 10th. Unlike the general special prosecutor law, the permanent special prosecutor law does not allow the president to exercise the right to request reconsideration.
