Before the National Assembly Impeachment Vote... Likely to Include a Public Apology
President Yoon Suk-yeol will deliver a national address at 10 a.m. on the 7th. This will be the first official statement by President Yoon since the emergency martial law situation, drawing attention to the level of his remarks.
In particular, with the National Assembly scheduled to hold a plenary session in the afternoon to vote on the impeachment motion against President Yoon, attention is focused on whether his address can soothe the angry public sentiment and minimize defections from the ruling party.
The Blue House announced that "President Yoon will deliver a live national address at 10 a.m. today."
A Blue House official told Asia Economy in a phone interview, "President Yoon will make a national address at 10 a.m. today," adding, "It is a situation where it cannot be avoided before the National Assembly's impeachment vote."
In this address, President Yoon is expected to directly express his position on the emergency martial law situation and include an apology to the public.
On the previous day, President Yoon met consecutively with Han Dong-hoon, leader of the People Power Party, and Choo Kyung-ho, floor leader, to gather opinions including demands for an apology raised within the ruling party, reportedly responding, "I understand well. I will consider it."
