Order of Cultural Merit awarded to singer Kim Chang-wan, broadcast writer Im Ki-hong
Singer Lee Moon-sae and actor Choi Soo-jong also receive Cultural Merit Order
Actors Shin Goo and Kang Boo-ja will be awarded the Silver Crown Order of Cultural Merit.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency will present the Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards on the 31st at the National Theater's Haeoreum Theater. This is the highest government award in the field of popular culture and arts. Candidates are selected through public nominations and expert recommendations. The winners are decided by evaluating the period of service, domestic and international activity records, contributions to related industries, and social contributions.
Shin, who receives the highest honor, debuted in 1962 with the play So. For over 60 years, he has showcased a variety of characters across films, dramas, and theater. His representative works include the sitcom Wenmanhaeseon Geudeureul Makeul Su Eopda and the play Last Session.
Equally distinguished, Kang debuted in 1962 as part of KBS's 2nd public recruitment class. She has appeared in numerous works such as the play Chinjeong Eommoma wa 2bak 3il and the drama Mogyoktangjip Namjadeul, touching the hearts of the public.
The Bronze Crown Order of Cultural Merit goes to singer Kim Chang-wan and broadcast writer Lim Ki-hong. Kim debuted in 1977 with the album Ani Beolsseo after forming the rock band Sanullim. He received great love for songs that span generations such as San Harabeoji and Neoui Uimi. He also contributed to the development of the popular culture industry as an actor and radio DJ.
Lim is a living legend of Korean television entertainment. Debuting in 1980, he created show comedy-type entertainment by combining comedy with music-centered shows. His representative works include Yumeo 1beonji, Gajok Orakgwan, Ujeong-ui Mudae, and Bulhu-ui Myeonggok.
The Blue Crown Order of Cultural Merit is awarded to singer Lee Moon-sae. He debuted in 1983 with the album Naneun Haengbokhan Saram and left numerous hit songs such as Gwanghwamun Yeonga, Yesarang, and Sonyo. He has also been active in talk shows and entertainment programs.
Actor Choi Soo-jong receives the Flower Crown Order of Cultural Merit. He debuted in 1987 with the drama Sarangi Kkotpineun Namu and left a strong impression in multiple historical dramas such as Taejo Wang Geon, Taeyangin Ijema, Dae Jo-yeong, and Goryeo Georan Jeonjaeng.
The Presidential Citation is awarded to blues guitarist Kim Mok-kyung, actors Yeom Hye-ran and Jo Jung-suk, musical actor Hong Kwang-ho, film director Kim Han-min, voice actor Kim Do-hyun, and recording artist Lee Tae-kyung.
The Prime Minister's Citation recipients include actors Chun Woo-hee and Lee Je-hoon, musical actor Choi Jae-rim, singer Jang Ki-ha, voice actor Kim Young-jin, film director Jang Jae-hyun, music director Kim Sung-soo, and composer Kenji, totaling eight individuals.
The Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Citation goes to actors Ahn Eun-jin, Cha Eun-woo, Go Min-si, singers Jannabi, Day6, Silica Gel, comedian Yoon Sung-ho, model Jung Ho-yeon, and drama director Yoon Jong-ho.
